How the patterns work: step by step
Every design starts with its own materials list and is written in US crochet terms, with an abbreviations table and step-by-step photos to guide you. The pattern takes you part by part, and the photos let you compare each piece with the original before you move on.
The four projects are built in quite different ways. The Christmas tree, doll and gingerbread girl are stuffed figures, while the gingerbread house is worked in flat crochet and given its structure with stiff wall and roof pieces that you cut to fit your finished house.
Four very different makes, one cozy theme: a doll, a tree and two gingerbread treats to fill your holiday shelf.
A good plan is to start with the gingerbread girl or the tree, which use fewer extra materials, and save the doll with her glued-on curly hair and the gingerbread house for when you are ready for detail work.
Techniques beyond the stitches
Alongside the crochet stitches listed below, you'll embroider details with black embroidery floss, attach safety eyes and, for some designs, use glue. The doll's hair is attached with craft or silicone glue, the tree uses fabric glue, and the gingerbread house is assembled with hot glue and felt.
Materials & Details
- Format: digital PDF pattern (41 pages, US Letter), written in English. No physical item is shipped.
- Terms: US crochet terms, with an abbreviations table and step-by-step photos (US vs UK terms guide).
- Stitches used: magic ring, chain, single crochet, slip stitch, increase, decrease, sc3tog, half double crochet, double crochet, treble crochet, back/front loop only.
- Yarn: 100% mercerized cotton, fingering/sport weight (CYC 1–2). Recommended: Scheepjes Catona. A color chart with shade numbers for every design is included. The designs were originally made with Círculo Amigurumi cotton.

Christmas Tree
- 2.5 mm crochet hook
- 15 mm black safety eyes, stuffing, fabric glue, black embroidery floss
Christmas Girl Doll
- 2.25 mm crochet hook (2.2 mm for the hair)
- Black safety eyes, stuffing, stitch marker, pins, rattle insert, black embroidery floss, craft or silicone glue for the hair, optional blush
- Soft, fluffy white yarn for the hat trim and pom-pom
Gingerbread Girl (called "Gingerbread Cookie" in the PDF)
- 2.5 mm crochet hook
- 9 mm safety eyes, stuffing
Gingerbread House (called "Candy House" in the PDF)
- 2.25 mm crochet hook, worked in flat crochet
- Hot glue, white or neutral felt, and an ice cream tub lid or acrylic sheet for the walls and roof. No templates are included: you cut the pieces to fit your finished house.
Yarn and hook guide
Mercerized cotton in fingering or sport weight gives these designs their crisp, smooth look and clear stitch definition. The color chart in the PDF lists shade numbers for every design, which makes shopping for Scheepjes Catona easy, but any similar mercerized cotton will work.
- Use the small hooks given for each design; cotton amigurumi needs tight stitches to look neat and keep the stuffing hidden.
- Choosing a thicker yarn will make a larger figure, while a finer cotton makes it smaller.
- The soft, fluffy white yarn for the doll's hat trim and pom-pom adds a lovely contrast to the smooth cotton.
Finishing and care
Stuff each figure evenly and firmly so it stands neatly on a shelf or under the tree. Take your time placing the safety eyes and embroidered details: the face is what gives each kawaii design its sweet expression.
Because several designs use glue, pins during assembly, felt and stiff inserts, think of the tree and the gingerbread house as decorations rather than toys. If you make the doll or gingerbread girl for a small child, embroider the eyes instead of using safety eyes and leave out anything that could come loose.
Christmas gift ideas
A crocheted Christmas tree makes a cheerful desk decoration for a colleague, and the gingerbread girl is a sweet stocking surprise. The Christmas girl doll is a thoughtful handmade gift for a niece, granddaughter or friend, and the gingerbread house turns into a cozy centerpiece for a holiday table or a mantel.
Make it your own
Use the color chart as a starting point, then add your own touches. Dress the doll in green or plaid instead of red, give the tree different ornament colors, or decorate the gingerbread house with extra candy-cane details. With these Christmas amigurumi crochet patterns you can also match your figures to your tree decorations for a coordinated holiday look.
