Mini Frog Keychain Amigurumi β Free Beta Release
A pocket-sized froggy friend! This tiny no-sew amigurumi hops up in under an hour and clips onto bags, keys, or zippers. Beginner-friendly with a satisfying compact shape and adorable eye-bumps on top of the head.
π Materials
- Hook: 2.5 mm (B/1 to C/2)
- Yarn: Fingering / Sock weight β Main Color (MC): bright green (or any color you love)
- Eyes: 6 mm safety eyes (black) β OR embroider with black thread for a baby-safe version
- Stuffing: small amount of polyfill
- Keychain ring with small jump ring + lobster clasp (or split ring)
- Tapestry needle
- Optional: black thread for tiny smile
Finished size: approx. 5β6 cm / 2β2.4 in tall.
π Abbreviations (US Terms)
- MR β magic ring
- sc β single crochet
- inc β increase (2 sc in same stitch)
- dec β invisible decrease
- sl st β slip stitch
- FO β fasten off
- [N] β total stitch count
πΈ Body / Head (worked as one round piece, MC)
- R1: 6 sc in MR. [6]
- R2: (inc) x 6. [12]
- R3: (sc, inc) x 6. [18]
- R4: (2 sc, inc) x 6. [24]
- R5β9 (5 rounds): sc in each st. [24] β the rounded body
- Insert safety eyes between R7 and R8, approx. 5 stitches apart, on what will be the top of the head. For a frog, eyes sit high on the head β almost on top.
- R10: (2 sc, dec) x 6. [18]
- Start stuffing firmly.
- R11: (sc, dec) x 6. [12]
- R12: (dec) x 6. [6]
- FO leaving tail. Close hole. Weave end inside.
π Eye Bumps (make 2, MC)
These sit directly behind/around each safety eye to give that classic protruding frog look.
- R1: 5 sc in MR. [5]
- R2: (inc) x 5. [10]
- R3: sc in each st. [10]
- FO leaving long tail.
Assembly: slide each bump around the safety eye post before securing the eye washer. The eye sits centered in the bump. Then sew the open edge of the bump flat against the head with the long tail. The result: two glossy eyes sitting on top of two little green humps.
Alternative no-bump version: skip the bumps entirely and let the safety eyes sit flat β still adorable.
π Keychain Attachment
- Cut a 30 cm piece of yarn (doubled for strength).
- Thread through the top-back of the head (between the eye bumps) using your tapestry needle.
- Loop through the jump ring of your keychain hardware.
- Tie a tight double knot, then thread the ends back into the body and trim flush.
- For extra security, dab a drop of fabric glue on the knot.
β¨ Finishing Touches
- Embroider a tiny "u" smile with black thread, 2 rows below the eyes, centered.
- Optional: add small pink cheek dots with embroidery floss.
π¨ Color Options
- Classic Green β kelly green / leaf green
- Tree Frog Blue β bright turquoise
- Strawberry Pink β bubblegum pink
- Rainbow Set β make 6 in pastel rainbow shades for a frog family
- Glow Yellow β neon highlighter yellow
