Friendly Ghost Halloween Amigurumi β Free Beta Release
Boo! Meet the friendliest little ghost in the haunted MrsCrochetWorld studio. This no-sew amigurumi features a charming wavy "wiggle" bottom edge β the classic cartoon-ghost silhouette β and works up quickly for Halloween shelf decor, gift toppers, or trick-or-treat baskets.
π Materials
- Hook: 3.5 mm (E/4)
- Yarn: DK weight β Main Color (MC): white (or glow-in-the-dark white for spooky vibes)
- Black yarn or embroidery floss for face
- Stuffing: polyfill
- Tapestry needle
- Optional for Mini Pumpkin Accessory: small amount of orange + green DK yarn
Finished size: approx. 10 cm / 4 in tall (including wiggle bottom).
π Abbreviations (US Terms)
- MR β magic ring
- ch β chain
- sc β single crochet
- hdc β half double crochet
- dc β double crochet
- inc β increase (2 sc in same stitch)
- dec β invisible decrease
- sl st β slip stitch
- BLO β back loops only
- FO β fasten off
π» Body (top-down, MC)
Start at the top of the head and work down to the wavy bottom. Continuous spirals; use a stitch marker.
- R1: 6 sc in MR. [6]
- R2: (inc) x 6. [12]
- R3: (sc, inc) x 6. [18]
- R4: (2 sc, inc) x 6. [24]
- R5: (3 sc, inc) x 6. [30]
- R6β8 (3 rounds): sc in each st. [30] β rounded head
- R9: (4 sc, inc) x 6. [36] β body widens slightly toward bottom
- R10β14 (5 rounds): sc in each st. [36] β body straight section
- R15 (BLO): sc in each st in BLO. [36] β this creates a fold line for the wiggle hem
- Stuff firmly up to R15 β the ghost should hold its shape but stay slightly squishy.
π Wiggle Bottom (continued from R15)
This creates the iconic 6-bump wavy ghost hem. Each "bump" uses 6 stitches.
-
R16 (wiggle round): repeat the following bump pattern 6 times:
- sc, hdc, 2 dc in next st, 2 dc in next st, hdc, sc β that's 6 sts used, 8 sts made (one bump)
- R17: sl st in each st around to close and smooth the edge. [48]
- FO and weave end inside.
Tip: the BLO round (R15) leaves a small front-loop ridge inside β that's correct! It pushes the wiggle outward and gives a clean inner edge.
π Face Embroidery
Use black yarn or 6-strand embroidery floss.
- Eyes: two small oval/round patches between R6 and R7, approx. 6 sts apart. Wrap each eye 4β5 times over a single stitch column to create solid black ovals.
- Mouth: small "o" shape (open ghost mouth) 2 rows below and centered between eyes β embroider a tight 3-wrap oval.
- Optional rosy cheeks: pink embroidery floss, 3 small wraps just outside each eye.
π Optional: Mini Pumpkin Accessory
The ghost can hold a tiny pumpkin like trick-or-treat candy!
- R1: with orange, 6 sc in MR. [6]
- R2: (inc) x 6. [12]
- R3β4 (2 rounds): sc in each st. [12]
- R5: (dec) x 6. [6]
- Stuff lightly. FO and close.
- Stem: with green, ch 3, sl st back along chain. FO and attach to top of pumpkin.
- Pumpkin ridges: with green or darker orange, wrap yarn around the pumpkin from top to bottom 4 times to create the segmented look. Knot inside.
- Stitch pumpkin to the front of the ghost just above the wiggle hem.
π¨ Color Variants
- Classic White β traditional ghost
- Glow-in-the-Dark β use glow yarn (charges under bright light, glows softly green for ~30 min in dark rooms)
- Pastel Ghosts β mint, lavender, baby pink, sky blue (perfect for cute Halloween dΓ©cor that lives all year)
- Spooky Black β black body + white embroidered face for a negative-space ghost
πΈ Styling Ideas
- Cluster 3 ghosts of different sizes on a shelf with mini pumpkins.
- Attach a string to the top β instant ghost garland.
- Pop one inside a small mason jar with battery fairy lights for a glowing Halloween lantern.
